Tuning into Teens

On Tuesday 9 August, the Marian College community was treated to a special event, “Tuning into Teens,” conducted by Anne Hubbard - an experienced coach in helping parents (and children) to develop emotional intelligence. This evening focused on supporting our families as they learn to understand what is happening to their young people and adolescents in the ever changing world we live in.

During the session, Anne provided insight on how to:

  • be better at talking with your teen?
  • be better at understanding your teen?
  • help your teen learn to manage their emotions?
  • help to prevent behaviour problems in your teen?
  • teach your teen to deal with conflict?

She continued to explain that adolescents with higher emotional intelligence:

  • are more aware, assertive and strong in situations of peer pressure
  • have greater success with making friends and are more able to manage conflict with peers
  • are more able to cope when upset or angry
  • have fewer mental health and substance abuse difficulties
  • have more stable and satisfying relationships as adults
  • have greater career success
  • may be a better predictor of academic and career success than IQ!

Our gratitude is extended to Anne for her personable, expert opinions. If parents are interesting in completing a further 6 week course, they are encouraged to contact Anne via anne@annehubbard.com.au
