Father's Day Liturgy and Breakfast Invitation

Australian History Competition

In Term 2 the Year 9 and 10 students who are studying Mandatory History this year took part in the Australian History Competition. This competition has been running for many years now and it attracts a large number of schools across the country. The 2022 results for St Pius X College were among the best in the time that the school has been involved.

In particular, we congratulate those students who achieved High Distinctions which placed them in the top 5% of all who participated from Stage 5 in Australia. The following were awarded their certificates at Assembly on Monday:

Year 9: Ethan Auer, Christo Playle and Ryan O’Reilly

Year 10: Harry Feehan, Sam Hollinger, Cameron Masters, Luke Mooney and Ewan Murphy.

Well done to these students on gaining these outstanding results.

A visit from Old Boy Alex Lewis

Alex Lewis, Class of 2013, dropped into the Visual Arts Department earlier this week. Alex was a very keen art student while at school and wanted to ensure that his many canvases could be recycled. He recalled that he received great encouragement from Mr Mark Anderson and many of the canvases had previous students’ work underneath! Alex studied journalism when he left school and worked for several years for Channel 7. Currently he is working for the ABC in Brisbane…. “Alexander Lewis is a multi-platform journalist reporting for ABC News in Brisbane. He began his career in Sydney producing breakfast television, before moving to regional Queensland to become a TV reporter. Alexander has worked in Mackay, the Gold Coast and Brisbane, covering courts, crime, politics, and general news.” (https://www.abc.net.au/news/alexander-lewis/13887110)

Alex is pictured with his mother, Lisa-Jane Lewis, Ms Annie Bryant and Ms Frances Doyle. He fondly remembers his days at St Pius X and the many staff who supported him through his schooling.

Snowy Hike Practice Hikes

Thank you to those Year 11 students who have completed the online expressions of interest for their son to attend Snowy Hike this year. Applications have now closed.

A reminder that your son must attend at least one of the initial qualification hikes below. Students require a daypack with water / snacks, suitable clothing and must be wearing their hiking boots (good walking shoes if boots have not been purchased yet). If your son has already acquired a backpack that he intends to use on the hike then this would be a good opportunity for him to test it out.
