Transport NSW Industrial Action

Transport NSW advise that further Industrial Action on Thursday 25 August may result in major disruption & reduced services across rail lines including North Shore, Northern & Central Coast lines. The advice is to consider using alternative transport, allow extra travel time and avoid non-essential travel.

Noting that many of our students have alternative travel options available and the extent of disruption is undetermined, St Pius X College will operate a normal timetable this week. Parents and students are encouraged to follow the advice and latest updates from Transport for NSW.

St Pius X Feast Day Holiday

A reminder that we celebrate St Pius X Feast Day next Monday, 29 August with a timely and welcome holiday from school after the conclusion of our Winter Sports last Saturday. While the Athletics season continues this Saturday and over coming weeks, it is great to be able to wish all our students and families a restful and recuperative respite from classes on Monday.

Year 5 Father-Son activity day

Congratulations to the Year 5 students and parents who engaged enthusiastically in their parent and son initiative last Sunday. By all accounts a great time was had by all in a great prelude to the upcoming Junior School Fathers’ Day Father-Son Thursday Sport celebration at Oxford Falls on 1 September and Fathers’ Day Liturgy and BBQ Breakfast in the College Gym on Friday 2 September to which Fathers and Sons from Years 5-12 are welcome.

Football Finals

In the wake of last Saturday’s Football finals well done on great efforts by Ms Van Riet’s 15B’s and Mr Phasie’s 14B’s who were defeated but not diminished in their final matches.

In a rousing victory however our 13B’s, coached by Conor Lo, (Old Boy Class of 2021)  prevailed even while Brad Balfour who suffered a broken arm at training on Wednesday, cheered in support from the sideline. Congratulations to these Year 7 boys, many of whom are new to the school this year.

Later in the day some of our Year 12 students including College Captain Will Staber and Boxercise Leader Alex Pelle similarly tasted great success as the 4th XI prevailed in a penalty shoot out nail biter under the steely, calculating and composed management of their Coach Mrs Fryar.

La Joga Bonita! Pele would have been proud and Alex Pelle is deservedly proud!

Year 8 Basketball Shootout Competition

Congratulations to the Year 8 Student Empowerment Team (SET) who conducted the first instalment of their student led Shooting Competition on the new centre court at lunchtime on Tuesday. It did really bring the crowds back and a good time was had by all as the following photos attest.

Learning  Opportunities at St Pius X College

In tandem with Science Week run by Ms Schuster, our Science Staff and Students, and Book Week, coordinated by Junior School Librarian Ms Martin, Ms Greenwood and our Junior School Staff, and History Extension presentations from Mr Rodgers and our Year 12 students, the school has been an exciting place of great learning opportunities this week as we welcome back our Year 12 from their Retreats to lessons, Trial HSC feedback and the push towards the HSC.
