Prayer

O Lord, God of mercies,

grant unto those who are mourning

the anniversary day of

Tom Van Dijk, a place of solace,

of peaceful rest, of glorious light.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen

Live Jesus in our Hearts, Forever

Monday 22 August was the first anniversary of the tragic passing of Tom Van Dijk. The College community marked the event through a memorial Mass led by Fr David Ranson in Our Lady of Dolours Parish Church where over 200 ex-students, parents, present students joined with Brad and Karrie Van Dijk to celebrate and remember Tom.

Following Mass those gathered joined in prayer and a planting ceremony in the College’s prayer garden.

May perpetual light shine upon him, may he rest in peace.

Our Vibrant School Life

It has been a delight to see the many learning and growth opportunities for our students over just the past week! Here is just a sample of the many activities:

  • Year 12 Retreats at Mulgoa, Wamberal and Tallows Beach
  • The final weekend of Winter Sport with Football Grand Finals and the final home games in Rugby vs St Augustine’s College.
  • This week is Science Week with activities every lunchtime.
  • Junior School Book Week is underway and will culminate in our Book Week Parade on Friday.
  • On Monday we presented our national achievements in History and Geography to the many High Distinctions and Distinctions of our boys.
  • The celebration of French culture in our Bastille Day (delayed) Assembly and at recess and lunch we held a Crepe making masterclass in the playground. Yum!
  • Year 12 History Extension Lunchtime Presentations in the SRC.
  • At lunchtime on Tuesday, the inaugural Year 8 Basketball Shootout was held and run by Year 11 and 12.
  • The Year 12 2023 Student Leaders Camp begins today (Wednesday 24 August) at Wamberal.

What a sample and the school is powering through Term 3!

Year 12 HSC begins today!

The Year 12 practical performances commence being presented to the examiners today.

Equally important, the Year 12 Industrial Technology major works are marked by the HSC itinerant markers.

Best wishes and God’s blessing on these students and their work.

Year 12 Exit Survey

Parents and Students in Year 12 should have received an email yesterday advising information about the Year 12 Exit Surveys.  Another email will be forwarded next Tuesday with the link to complete the survey.  The surveys will open on Tuesday and remain open for 2 weeks.

I encourage all Year 12 parents and students to take the time to complete the survey as it gives the College useful feedback.

St Pius X College Feast Day Holiday

A reminder that next Monday (29 August) we will have the St Pius X College Feast Day Holiday.  There will be no school on Monday, and classes will resume on Tuesday.

Splinters, Splashes, Stage and Sounds - Exhibition of Year 12 Major Works

This Thursday evening from 6.00 pm the Annual Exhibition of SPX Major Works will be held at the College. Everyone is welcome to see the incredible work of our HSC students.

From the College Advisory Council

Seeking interest from Potential New Members for St Pius X College Advisory Council

The College Advisory Council is seeking Expressions of Interest from people willing to take up an appointment to the College Advisory Council or one of its Committees. There are a number of current Council members who are due to conclude their term at the end of 2022.

The College Advisory Council plays an important role in the monitoring of the College’s Governance, Strategic Direction, Financial Management and Property and Facilities. Members are recommended by the College and ultimately appointed by EREA for a 3-year term.

People interested will have a commitment to Catholic Education in the Edmund Rice tradition.

Our College Advisory Council has an excellent mix of female and male members and as an equal opportunity employer we are committed to gender equity and inclusion. The Council is looking for a broad range of skills that respond to its role including but certainly not limited to: construction, project management, finance, and legal services. Involvement in the Council is a rewarding experience with like-minded adults who seek to continue the enhancement of our wonderful school community.

Anyone interested in nominating is invited to complete the attached Expression of Interest and emailing it to admin@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au  Attention: Christine Jennings.

On receiving your response, further contact will be made with prospective Council members.

Students Leaving the College at the end of the year

Parents are reminded that if you are considering a change of schools at the end of the year, it is the policy of the College that a term's notice should be given in writing to the Principal.  As we head towards the end of Term 3, I ask any parents considering a change to make contact with the College.

You are also welcome to contact the College Registrar to discuss any enrolment matters: cjennings@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au.
