Physical Education Classes

Foundation, Year 1 & 2 Students

This term, students have focused on overarm throwing using the correct technique from the shoulder. In class, we have rotated through a number of activities to practise accuracy and technique. Some of the favourite activities were:

  • Throwing the big comets
  • Working on accuracy by throwing at wall targets
  • Tossing badminton shuttles into buckets
  • Working with a partner throwing the lattice ball

Year 3 – 4 Students

This term, students have focused on their passing skills, including chest, bounce and overhead passing to partners. A favourite class activity has been playing ‘keeping off’ games where one team has to intercept the ball from another team, then pass the ball to their teammates.

Year 5 – 6 Students

Our senior students have also been working on their passing skills, with a focus on accuracy and technique. They are working well in teams and have been coordinating strategies to win points. In class, students have really enjoyed playing ‘Skittles’ and ‘Bombardment’

  • Skittles: the objective of the game is to throw a ball to knock over your opponent’s skittles.
  • Bombardment: The aim of this game is to throw lots of small balls to knock into and move a larger ball into their opponent’s space.

Year 4 – 6 House Athletics

This term, we held our House Athletics at FPS. Students had the opportunity to compete in a variety of athletic experiences and earn points for their House. The events included shot put, discus, 100m, and 200m.

The emphasis of the day was on fun and participation, with many students having a go and each event. It was wonderful to hear the cheering, witness the good sportsmanship, and see students encouraging each other to try their best.

From this, we have selected 36 students to represent FPS at the District Athletics Carnival on Tuesday 23 August. We wish them the best for this upcoming athletics carnival.
