At the last council meeting on August 1, most of the essential business items discussed related back to the Fairfield Primary School Council Goals and Objectives document, and it’s exciting to say that this document was endorsed. This document details the Council’s commitment to ensuring the continued nurturing and development of students at FPS.
After the endorsement, Assistant Principal Sarah Abbott presented the PROTECT Child Safe Standards training module which details the newly revised Victorian Child Safe Standards. These came into force on 1st July and are implemented throughout the school. The presentation included an overview of the Child Safe Standards, the role of the School Council in respect to child safety, and a summary of the school’s child safety policies and procedures. The presentation, thanks to Sarah, was delivered with considerable understanding of the processes involved.
As many people know, the school is going through a review which consists of three days of information gathering, evaluation and analysis to find out where the school is currently sitting and what is needed to meet its future goals and targets. Conversations have been had with many groups, including students, staff, and school councillors to gather some important insights into how the school runs. The review, a necessary undertaking of all schools, is continuing.
Excitingly, plans for Art4All in November are coming along! The organisation committee is engaged and ready to put on a fabulous weekend of art and activities. If you are looking to volunteer, places are still available – so get in touch with the school to find out more.
Finally, prior to this meeting, we were advised that Mark Sandiford has decided to move on from School Council due to other commitments. We all thank Mark for his many contributions, in particular with the Social Club.
