This Sunday's Gospel Reading

Luke 14:1,7-14

When you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.

Meals played an important role in the society in which Jesus lived. More than a time for sharing nourishment, they were a time to share ideas and to model different aspects of social relationships.

Let us pray:

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Whenever we pray these words, we are asking God to help us to live according to his will—being humble and giving without expecting repayment.
