Year 10 Snow Camp

Late last Sunday night, 27 year 10 students boarded a bus and journeyed 10-hours through the night to Mount Hotham, arriving around 8 am Monday morning for our first day on the snowy mountain. With blizzard-like conditions, low visibility, 80 kmph winds, and falling snow, their first day was a challenge.  As many of our students were first-timers, these conditions made it difficult to learn basic skills of skiing and snowboarding however our students didn’t let the weather dull their spirits. Tuesday morning, they woke to 17cm of fresh snow, and picture-perfect weather conditions with blue skies, sunshine, and low wind, which lingered for the remainder of their trip making for an enjoyable snow experience. Qualified instructors held basic skills lessons each morning which benefited our students greatly, with each lesson our students were quick to learn the basics of skiing and snowboarding and showed improvements and greater confidence each day. These skills were able to be utilised by students to spend their own time exploring the mountain and putting their lessons into practice, shredding the slopes.

Year 10 Work Experience

Last week saw 30 students head off into the work force on work experience to gain insight into their chosen areas of interest. Occupations varied across the board from a horse dentist to hairdressing/barbering, building to baking, and everything in between. The school received positive reports all around with students reporting on positive learning experiences, and employers and visiting teachers reporting positive feedback regarding our students.

On behalf of Red Cliffs Senior College, I would like to sincerely thank the businesses for welcoming our Red Cliffs students. Without the support of participating businesses, our students would not have the opportunity to explore potential career paths. The students represented themselves, their families, and Red Cliffs Senior College with pride and excellence and should be commended.

Year 9 Morrisby Interviews

During week 7 Red Cliffs Senior College welcomed Heather and Paul Armstrong from the CEAV. Heather and Paul completed Career Interviews for the Morrisby Profiling for our year 9 students. The year 9 students, as well as student parents/guardians who were able to attend at the completion of interviews, reported positive reviews. Morrisby Profiling uses a combination of psychometric assessments and questionnaires indicating areas of strengths and weaknesses in each individual. This will assist students to explore their career choices in more depth, as well as aid with their individual subject selections for the future.

Chris Anstey - NBA Legend visits Red Cliffs SC

On Thursday 8th September Red Cliffs Secondary College will welcome former NBA basketball player, Chris Anstey, to give a motivational speech to all students. Chris will be speaking about his sporting journey and what it took to become an elite basketballer in the NBA, playing alongside all time great, Michael Jordan. Chris’s speech focuses on key components that lead to the success of his sporting career, with an emphasis on both successes and failures experienced along his journey, as well as the importance of resilience, leadership, and teamwork. Chris will return on the following day (Friday 9th September - pupil free day) to speak with our staff cohort. This is a fantastic opportunity for Red Cliffs Secondary College and we are confident that both staff and students will be able to take something positive from Chris’s speech.
