Library Monitors Christmas Party

Hi, my name is Hibah, and I’ve been a library monitor for the past two years, and I am soon to be one of the 2023 library captains! The Library Monitor Program has been going on at Brentwood for years, and every year we have dedicated events and parties to celebrate the monitors and librarians, and to commemorate all we have achieved throughout the year.  As always, the Christmas party was a great success and congratulations to all the monitors in the Library Program who put so much effort into making the library community so unique and special. We’re always on the lookout for new monitors so please don’t hesitate to ask myself or any of the librarians on how you can join.

Goethe Excursion

On the 8th November, our year 10 German students went to the Goethe Institute to undertake a language exam. We started off meeting at the Glen Waverley Station at 7:30 am, then took the train to Flinders Street, followed by a tram to our location. We were very nervous, however, excited as this was something that none of us had done before. Writing and speaking in another language under test conditions? No, thank you. However, my opinion quickly changed as I entered the exam room and actually finished the written part of the examination. This was followed by a speaking portion, where we were tasked with introducing ourselves and asking each other questions in German. Our group was also set to go first, so as you can probably imagine, we were a bundle of nerves.

After this, the amazing staff at the Goethe Institute had set up escape rooms for us. Our group was tasked with solving and filling in the blanks at an apocalypse site. I think it´s safe to say that the first half an hour was tough, but with a lot of teamwork and leadership, we managed to escape.

To finish the day, we went to a German restaurant, Hofbräuhaus in Melbourne, where we enjoyed some delicious German meals followed by an amazing dessert.

I would like to thank Frau Holl and Frau Bruns for planning and accompanying us on this day of adventure and excitement. This was an amazing opportunity to practice and showcase our German skills. I can't wait to see what VCE German has in store for us!

Auf Wiedersehen!
