2022 Literature Festival

2022 Mazenod Literature Festival

Recently, we had pleasure in inviting two authors and an illustrator to the Mazenod Literature Festival.

The three-day festival was launched with the Celebrating Reading Lunch, the highlight of which was the presentation of certificates to students who actively participated in the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge and Book Club or were enthusiastic readers who excelled as active readers throughout the year. Wednesday, author Scot Gardner spoke at the Parent Breakfast and conducted writing workshops. On Thursday, Mark Smith presented his experience as surfer and writer to the Year 9 cohort plus two small group writing workshops.  Year 8 students were also enchanted by the talent of illustrator Marc McBride learning fine points of the art of airbrushing.

Mazenod Library Staff in collaboration with the English faculty, value the opportunity to bring authors and illustrators to the College as events such as this change the perceptions of students by exposing the human face behind familiar books.  The students themselves have talents that are nurtured by experiences such as our visiting author program.

We thank the parents who joined us for breakfast during the festival.  Thanks also to Junior English Coordinator, Mr Jed Harrington and art teachers Ms Rimma Campos and Mr Steve Emmett who coordinated the winning entries for 2022 Shared Stories.  Entries can be viewed by visiting Mazenod Literature Festival/Shared Stories. Sincere appreciation to all involved for helping make the festival an amazing success!
