Intermediate Boys Year 9 & 10 Cricket
The Year 9 & 10 Cricket boys ventured down to Galvin Park in Werribee to take on Strathmore Secondary College. The boys arrived to a very wet deck, but winning the toss they elected to bowl and send Strathmore in to bat.
Strathmore started well, ticking the scoreboard over to be 0/21 after the fourth over on a very slow outfield. Enter Hassan Raza who made the breakthrough Staughton needed, smashing the ball into off stump. From here Staughton chipped away at the top order and Jack Sipthorp was a big part of that taking 4/12 off his 4 overs. Another cameo from Khizer Rashid, a new addition to the side, came on and bowled a solid spell of spin bowling finishing with 1 wicket.
Due to time constraints, Strathmore batted for 45 minutes, for a total of 13 overs which Staughton had to use now to make 68 runs.
Elias and Maneth as an opening partnership started off well, seeing off the opening bowlers, but were struggling to hit boundaries to take the pressure off the run chase. Elias tried his best to get the boys over the line making 21 runs. In the end the boys fell short of the total by 8 runs.
The boys have had an unbelievable run and were praised for reaching this level of competition. Students in this team have created a great culture around the cricket program, engaging and taking their own trainings and playing with great spirit and sportsmanship. We look forward to seeing most of them in the Senior Boys team next year.
