Week 7 Term 4

St Fidelis School is committed to the care, wellbeing and protection of children , young people and vulnerable people in our community.

He became what we are so that he might make us what he is.

- St.Athanasius

Dear Parents and Carers,

The Advent season within the Catholic Church has begun. Advent is a time of waiting, a time to prepare to celebrate the coming of Jesus celebrated at Christmas. It is a time also to consider what the presence of Jesus, the Christ, means to us today. Advent encompasses the four Sundays and weekdays leading up to the celebration of Christmas and it is a time of preparation for our hearts and minds for the anniversary of the Lord's birth on Christmas.

The next two seasons of the liturgical year are:

Advent – (which begins next Sunday, November 27th ) is a period covering the 4 Sundays before Christmas during which we prepare to celebrate Christ’s birth and anticipate his coming again at the end of time. The liturgical colour for Advent is violet.

Christmas – the season of Christmas celebrates Christ’s birth and early manifestations. It runs from 25th December to until the feast of the Baptism of the Lord on the Sunday after 6th January. The liturgical colour for the Christmas season is white.”

At last week's Professional Learning staff meeting, the staff engaged in dialogue about the Season of Advent. We unpacked the scripture readings that are used during the Advent Sundays leading up to Christmas, we read commentaries written by scholars, we dialogued about how Advent is relevant to our lives today, made connections with phrases words sentences in scriptures and discussed the challenges that these scriptures present to us in today's world.

As Professional educators of the Catholic faith, it is vital for us to reflect on THE WORD before presenting them to our students. Over the next four weeks, the teachers will unpack the Advent scriptures with the students, with the intent of making these readings relevant to our children in today's world.

This week, the teachers will gather data from the students to find out their interests and passions and how we can weave their interests into our Inquiry map.

THEIRCARE will provide all-day care next Monday if required. Please contact them to register for the day.
