"On Thursday the 17th of November, former MCC student (Prep - Year 10) and soon to be doctor, Andrew Cobden, returned to deliver an informative talk about pathways into medical careers on behalf of Outlook Rural Health Club, a University of Melbourne Medical School student led initiative.

During the talk, students learnt about various medical careers like physiotherapy and doctoring with special emphasis placed on exciting new rural student only pathways that make these careers more accessible than ever.

Following the short talk, students were invited to participate in a simulated hospital resuscitation and interact with various pieces of authentic hospital equipment.

There were a lot of laughs, a dash of inspiration, one questionable performance of the Bee Gees, and a very relieved plastic mannequin that has once again cheated death, George.”

Asher Kelleher: Even though I’m not thinking of entering the health professions it was a great session.

It felt relaxed and comfortable and it was easy to ask questions.

William Toetuu: When you’re doing CPR, remember to sing “Staying Alive” [to help with timing].

Hannah Snell: It was good to be learning about something that you don’t get taught often, such as CPR.

It was great learning from other people’s experiences and finding out about different career paths you can take.

Gloria Tu’i: It was good how he explained different pathways into the medical field.

Joseph Kirirua-Gill: It was great; he should come back! A highlight was learning how to do CPR properly.

Lucas Tresize: I learned how to test people’s reflexes [using a reflex hammer].

Sewing Bee
