‘Lost play finds its way to St Bede’s College Production’
The Sunny South by George Darrell (1883)
A lost, Australian classic melodrama has been resurrected by St Bede’s College in collaboration with students from Mentone Girls’ Grammar School and Kilbreda College. Presented by the Yr. 12 Theatre Studies class and directed by Mr Jamie Parton, The Sunny South is the story of a villainous English businessman who looks to take control of the Chester family estate in the old country (England).
Only one man can save them…the rightful heir himself! Together they must journey to the Colonies (Australia) to claim a stake in a huge gold nugget that will keep the wolf from the door. However, the villain has other ideas…
This Melodramatic Comedy depicts a romantic view of early Australian Colonialism in a light-hearted, enormously entertaining way. It’s “gag a minute” presentational acting style and energy are sure to have the audiences rolling in the isle night after night. A genuinely fun night at the theatre that is not to be missed!
