Unit 2 Systems Engineering

This semester has seen the Year 11 Systems students commencing their Unit 2 studies in Systems Engineering, with 5 new faces that have joined our class.

In this unit, students are studying fundamental electro-technology engineering principles.  Through the application of their knowledge and the Systems Engineering process, students are producing operational systems that may also include mechanical components.  This construction process draws heavily upon design and innovation.

Students are also studying fundamental electro-technology principles including applied electrical theory, representation of electronic components and devices, elementary applied physics in electrical circuits, and mathematical calculations that can be applied to define and explain electrical characteristics of circuits.

The students are applying their knowledge in the design, construction, testing, modification and evaluation of an operational system.

It has been very pleasing to see Hovercrafts, Drag Cars and M Walker Robots all being produced as models in this particular subject and also the accompanying investigation folios that will contribute to each student’s assessment.

Systems Engineering at Lilydale High School now has a website set up, that is full of information for parents and students to peruse, to assist in the selection of subjects at VCE for 2017.
