Athletics Carnival

Thursday 28 July

Students from all year levels competed in the School Athletics Carnival at Knox Athletics Track on Thursday 28 July.

For the Year 7’s it was their first experience of a whole school athletics event and the day was a great success.  There were a record number of participants, all contributing to their House team's overall results.

The costumes were a marvellous spectacle on the day, with students from all year levels displaying their house pride with an array of colourful outfits.

A big congratulations to all those involved in the day.

All Schools Netball Tournament

On Friday 22 July, the first Lilydale High School Intermediate Boys Netball team played in the All Schools Netball Tournament.

The tournament was relatively successful and allowed us to learn a lot more about gameplay and our court structure.

Although the day proved to be difficult due to bad weather, the team was strong throughout the day and pushed all teams that we played.

The day was a great learning experience for the team as we all learnt more about each other's game style. We learnt a lot about the competition that we were likely to face two days later in the Eastern Zone competition (second round of interschool sport) and therefore were able to plan and prepare for the coming Monday.

Throughout the games we tried players in different positions to try and work out the best team for later tournaments. This was a challenge, but after the first game we were able to adjust to not only the new positions but the cold and windy outdoor conditions.

RESULTS

Game 1

LHS V Padua College - Lost 4-6

Game 2

LHS V Kilvington Grammar –Won 7-1

Game 3

LHS V St Josephs  - Lost 6-7

Game 4

LHS V Tintern Grammar - Won 17-1

Game 5

LHS V McKinnon College – Lost  6-9

Early on in the day, the team found it difficult to adjust to the new short gameplay and testing conditions. Poor passing really let us down and proved to be a major factor in the losses to St Josephs and Padua College. It was great to finish the day with a few wins - which gave us confidence heading into Eastern Zone.

Overall the day was a success and although we didn't place, finishing fourth out of six schools, we were able to learn a lot and ultimately gain much confidence for the coming stages.

Special thanks to Ms Rowson and Miss Cook for putting time into teaching and coaching us, and for making the day so enjoyable!

Eastern Zone Intermediate Boys Netball

Monday 25 July

Waverley Netball Stadium

The boys arrived at the stadium with full confidence and what a start we had winning the first game against Templestowe 21-15.

We continued playing well and that resulted in a Round 2 win against Wheelers Hill 16-13.

Our next opponent was not really a challenge for us, but still we played it like it was a grand final, beating Ringwood SC 17-7.

The team must have been feeling a bit restless after the last round, as we battled it out with Wantirna in a close semi- final, but in the end our team contained their nerves and won 15-14.

Everyone was feeling nervous as we came across a determined Camberwell in the Grand Final.  We started off great, but in the end we lost 11-20.

Overall everyone should be really proud by how far we came.  After all, we only had 4 Year 10 students in our team.

A big thanks to the coaches, Ms Cook and Ms Rowson who contributed to our team's success in many different ways.
