Year 8 Indonesian

The Year 8 students conducted a project entitled ‘Destination Indonesia’ following their Oral Communication CAT presentation.

Each student picked an Indonesian province and researched the main tourist destination or attraction therein, along with the information on the distance from the city centre, modes of transport and activity options. They compiled their findings in a Google slide presentation which was linked to an individual QR code generated by themselves.  The printed QR codes were then attached onto a large map of Indonesia for the whole class to scan.

By the end of the project, most of the students had collected information on at least 5 tourist destinations in 5 different provinces in Indonesia.

The students enjoyed the whole process as they had the chance to present and share their information in a fun and sophisticated way which they had never experienced before.

Host Family needed

Hello everybody in the Lilydale High School community! My name is Gabrielle Froissart and I am 18 years old. I was in a literary section at Lycée Darchicourt, the sister school to Lilydale High and I graduated in August with distinction.

I am now studying at the University of Lille, in the English Department.  I will continue my studies by distance next semester.

I was not able to come to Australia on the exchange in February, but I have always dreamed of going to Australia and with a little help that dream might come true!

Indeed, I will be in Lilydale from January 26  to June 4, 2017. I will be volunteering at Lilydale High School as a French assistant. I am looking to board with a family. I will also have travel insurance to cover any medical situations that may arise.

I am easy to live with, cheerful, and I can help with the housework. I won’t be demanding at all, and I surely will accommodate to your daily life.  More than a dream, this travel could help me in my studies and that is a great opportunity for me to improve my English.

Please contact Mrs Sharon Stoyanoff via email; stoyanoff.sharon.i@lilydalehs.vic.edu.au  or 9735 5644, if you are able to offer board for all or part of the time that I will be in Australia.

2017 UWC Australia Scholarship

Opportunities for students in Years 10 and 11

United World Colleges are a group of not-for-profit international schools that give young people from dozens of nationalities the opportunity to come together and share their cultural and personal experiences while studying for the International Baccalaureate.

The aim of the schools is to make education a force for peace and sustainability by fostering understanding and cooperation among tomorrow’s citizens and leaders.

This year, United World Colleges Australia will have one full scholarship, a number of partial scholarships and unfunded places for students to study at a UWC.

In 2016, places were available in The Netherlands, Costa Rica, Wales, Swaziland, Singapore, India and Bosnia.

General information is available at https://bitly.com/uwcaus2017appor from the website at http://uwc.org.au/how-to-apply.

Candidates will be ranked and offered places in order of merit, with scholarship funds awarded on a needs basis. Ideally, candidates will apply based on the desire to attend a UWC rather than go to a specific country, as the National Committee cannot guarantee that successful candidates will be offered their preferred location.  UWC Australia selects on a broad range of criteria, not merely academic performance.

Applications will CLOSE Friday 7 October.

For more information, please contact Stratos Patsikatheodorou, Treasurer on 0401 295 179 or stratos@uwc.org.au
