Science in The Hive

During this week, The Hive conducted a science experiment to create a contraption that could make a ping pong ball travel approximately 1 metre. They were very successful and came up with some amazing ideas to make it travel the distance. Class members had cardboard boxes, scissors, rulers, paper and some masking tape to use. All groups got around 30 minutes to build and test their ideas. This tested them in working together as a group, developing thinking skills and also building skills.

I believe they did a fantastic job and all were intrigued by the topic. The Hive can't wait for the next experiment in science!

Below there is a movie made by Connor Witton. It's a time lapse of the thirty minutes in just a few seconds showing the science experiment. The song is Da funk by Daft Punk.                                                                             -Connor.W

Room 26/27 Science

This term Room 26 and 27 has been looking at Chemical Science, in particular reversible and irreversible changes. We have put together some experiments such as adding salt to water and seeing how much we can add before the water has absorbed it all. We also did experiments in test tubes, we added bicarb soda, water and tartaric acid and observed the changes. We were in groups of four for both of these experiments. This topic has been fun and also very interesting seeing how all the different substances react when mixed together.

Room 3 Our MFS visit!

This term rooms 3 & 4 were lucky to have a very special visit from the Metropolitan Fire Service. We learnt lots about fire safety and what we need to do when there is a fire to make sure we stay safe. We also had a chance to have a look in the fire truck and talk about all the special equipment they use when there is a fire. At the end of the visit every student had a turn at using the big fire hose. They all had a great time and really enjoyed it!

Rm 20 - Mathematics

This term we have been working on measurement for Mathematics. We worked individually, in pairs and in groups. We collaborated with one another and challenged each other to achieve high standards by working in teams. We learnt by exploring, helping each other and reporting our findings to our groups and the class.

Rm 23 - Olympics

Room 23 has been learning about the Ancient Olympics held in Olympia, Greece and the Modern Olympics held in Rio and making comparisons. The children have been researching the similarities and differences between the Olympics.

Here are some interesting facts discovered by children in our class.

The first Olympic Games were held in 776BC. Liam

The Ancient Olympics were held to honour the Greek God Zeus. Leila

For 13 Olympics the only event was the 200 metres. Zoe

In the Ancient Olympics there were events like boxing, pentathlon and wrestling. Stella

The athletes competed completely naked in the Ancient Olympics. Wyatt

The winner of an event was awarded with an olive leaf crown. Charlotte

Room 20 - Olympics

Working with buddies is something that we enjoy and learn so much from. During our time with our buddies we have been researching the Olympic Games. Here are some photos of us in action...
