New Faces at BHCS in 2019 (1 of 2)

As the new school year commences, there are many new BHCS Team members  that we'd like to introduce to you - please say a big hello when you see them.  In no particular order....

Karen Angus

What is your new role at BHCS and what you are excited about this year?

In 2019, I will be teaching Prep B for period one and two each Friday, and am looking forward to getting to know students at all levels as a Casual Relief Teacher. I look forward to new routines, adventures and smiling faces!

What did you do previously?

I have over twenty years of teaching experience, and in recent years have worked as a Casual Relief Teacher, while my youngest children were preschoolers.

What do you like to do for fun?

I love to read, and have a passion for genealogy. I have connected with relatives all over the world, and love learning more about my family history. But most of all, I love spending quality time with my family and friends.

What is your new role at BHCS and what you are excited about this year?

I will be teaching in Junior School in one of the Year 1/2 classes. I am really excited about meeting the new students and their families as well working with all the staff at BHCS. I am thrilled to be living back in the hills after being away for some time.

What did you do previously?

For the last few years my family and I have been working at Hebron School in south India. It was a wonderful experience for us living and working in such a culturally rich environment. I was teaching a Year 6 class as well being a dorm parent to ten Year 7 girls.

What do you like to do for fun?

I love cycling and supporting the Adelaide Crows.

What is your new role at BHCS and what you are excited about this year?

My new role at BHCS is in the kinder, being a co-educator, with  the gorgeous Kirsty and Jane with the pre-school children. It is always such an honour to be allowed to be part of a child’s growth, putting the foundations in, so they can reach their full potential. Not only in their learning but in Christ as well, preparing them for their school years and then adulthood.

I am excited about being part of such a beautiful and professional school like Belgrave Heights. I am excited about all the relationships, adventures and learning we will create, as a team, with the children, and their families.

What did you do previously?

Previously I was still involved in pre-school, for City Of Casey. I have been involved in all kinds of children’s services, for 29 years now. Since the age of 16 I knew this was my calling and am very passionate about children’s development in every area, physical, spiritual, emotional and cognitive. I have been very blessed to be able to do my “dream job” for this long, still love it!

What do you like to do for fun?

For fun, I love walking and reading, and finding a unique bargain at a vintage shop. I love taking our dogs for walks through the bush, I find it is refreshing and calming. I love spending time with my family and friends, whether it’s camping, watching a movie helping out at a church working bee or playing games, dinner or simply having a cuppa and a chat.

What is your new role at BHCS and what you are excited about this year?

I'm teaching Yr 11 Psychology and I'm excited to be part of the wonderful BHCS community!

What did you do previously?

I have a Bachelor of Arts / Education and taught for 8 years at Flinders Christian Community College in Tyabb.  My teaching methods are Psychology and Geography.  I left teaching to have our family and spent the next 9 years at home with our 3 children (the most demanding job I've ever had!)  When our youngest started Prep last year, I did some CRT work here and thoroughly enjoyed being back in the classroom.

What do you like to do for fun?

I love to get lost in a good book with a pot of Earl Grey tea at hand!  French toast, walks along the beach, board games, singing, and de-cluttering are some of my favourite past-times!

What is your new role at BHCS and what you are excited about this year?

I will be working as a Learning Enhancement Specialist supporting students and families at the Junior School. I am excited about being part of a Christ-centred learning community that aims to provide a rich curriculum catering for students with diverse backgrounds, abilities, needs and interests.

What did you do previously?

I have been working in the field of special education for about 12 years.  I have taught pre-school, primary and secondary aged students at a variety of schools.

What do you like to do for fun?

I love spending time with my husband and our two young children.  We have recently started a vegetable garden in our backyard and that has been really fun. We were hoping that starting a vegetable garden may encourage one of our children to appreciate and eat more vegetables. Unfortunately that has not worked!
