Throughout Term 1, Year 9’s have been participating in ‘Learning Conversations’. These discussions are focused around the student’s learning and aim to provide students with time to reflect on their successes, areas to improve and allow them to respond to the question: Is there anything further that Lilydale High School can do for you to help your learning?
We have been consistently impressed by the thoughtfulness of our students and the insights they have regarding their own learning.
If you have any questions about these discussions, please contact the school. Ms Powson, Ms McMillan, Ms Timmers and Mr Taylor have been running the learning conversations, and are happy to discuss these further.
The past two weeks have been very eventful for the Year 9 students with the school swimming carnival, Grade 6/Year 7 Sports Day and International Women's Day being held.
First of all, thank you to all of the Year 9 students who participated in the LHS swimming carnival. Congratulations to all of the students that finished in the top three and made it to the next round. The swimming carnival was an amazing and colourful day. It was awesome to see everyone in their team colours and cheering for their house. Things were splashed up with the bomb competition, where every student got the opportunity to show off their bombing skills.
The Grade 6/Year 7 Sports Day was a day where Grade 6 classes from different schools around the area, got to compete in a friendly sports carnival. It was also a wonderful leadership opportunity for the participating Year 9 students, who got the chance to either, lead some of the Grade 6 or Year 7 classes, or record the results. It was a fun and enthusiastic day for everyone.
Thursday 8 March was International Women's Day. It was a day where we celebrate the achievements of women throughout history across the entire world. Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to wear 3 coloured ribbons; purple for justice and dignity, green to signify hope and white to represent purity.
There was also a Friday Frenzy writing prompt about gender equality, which the Year 9 students may have used to inspire a piece of writing.

Thursday 8 March
On the 8th of March every year we celebrate International Women's Day. This is a day where we can remember and celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women throughout history across the entire world.
There are three colours we use to represent this day; purple for justice and dignity, green to signify hope and white to signify purity. Sometimes the colour yellow is also included to signify a new dawn.
The real heart of International Women's Day though, is to bring awareness to all the incredible things women are achieving every single day, which is something that everyone can appreciate and acknowledge.
So take this opportunity to think about the incredible women in your life.
As you walk around today the leaders will be handing out ribbons that you can wear to show that you recognize International Women's Day.
