Assessment & Reporting

Assessment and Reporting Semester 1

As we come to the end of Term Two,  I would like to commend students in Years 9 and 10 on the way they conducted themselves during the recent core subject exam period.  At St Bede’s we believe that setting these habits early is an important part of demystifying formalised examinations.  Year 9 and 10 exam results will be part of the final PAM upload for the term.  Parents will be able to log onto PAM from Monday June 24 for Year 7-10 feedback and results, and from Wednesday June 26 for Year 11 and 12 reports.

How to get the most out of PAM uploads

REMINDER about changes to Assessment and Feedback 2019

St Bede’s College is adopting a developmental assessment model in subjects from Years 7 to 10, and in VCAL.   The framework brings together much of the contemporary research about effective instruction, differentiation and authentic assessment.  This type of assessment forms an integral part of the learning and teaching program, and allows a more reliable assessment of where students are in their learning.

What is a Rubric?

Rubrics are the most common tools used to provide developmental feedback.  Rubrics are graphic representations of the learning progression.  Please note that rubrics are not appropriate for all subject areas and assessment tasks, therefore in some cases written feedback will remain in place beyond 2020.

Should you have any questions regarding this project, please do not hesitate to contact Ms Maria Haggett, Deputy Principal (Teaching and Learning), Ms Gabi Warfe (Senior Teaching and Learning Leader) or Justin Eke (Junior Teaching and Learning Leader).

How do I find the Rubric?

We have been working closely with our learning technology provider to improve access to the rubrics through PAM. We appreciate your patience as we transition to a more contemporary model of assessment and feedback. As noted above, this move to developmental assessment rubrics (where appropriate) will occur in stages over the next two years.  Therefore, you may see some different forms of feedback on PAM.  The following points explain what you will see, and how you may seek further information:

  • 1.Formal uploads of assessment task results occur once per term on the following dates:

Upload 1

March 26

Upload 2

June 24

Upload 3

September 16

Upload 4

December 9

The formal upload will utilise the following forms of feedback:

  • a. Numerical result (all classes and year levels)
  • b. Written feedback (Most classes in Years 8, 9, 10)

  • 2.   Ongoing assessment results (including rubrics) via PAM

During the term time, parents can access their son’s learning programs via the Learning Areas section, which we have now opened on PAM. You can find this underneath your son’s profile picture on the left hand side of the page.

In this section of PAM, you will be able to access numerical grades as well as developmental rubrics as an additional form of feedback.  During this period of the project rubrics are available for students in the following year levels and classes:

  • All Year 7 classes
  • Year 8 Design Technology
  • Year 9 Religious Education
  • Year 10 English
  • Year 10 Science

Please note: The dates referred to in Learning Areas do not refer to the student due dates, but are for administration purposes only.  Due dates are communicated to the students directly and can vary between classes.

  • 3.   Accessing assessment results with your son

Perhaps the most effective way of monitoring your son’s progress is to ask him to show you!  Students have access to marks and feedback as soon as their teachers enter it onto SIMON. This provides a way of opening up discussion about his strengths and areas for growth.

Should you have any questions regarding this project, please do not hesitate to contact Ms Maria Haggett, Deputy Principal (Teaching and Learning), Mr Justin Eke (Junior Teaching and Learning Leader) or Ms Gabi Warfe (Senior Teaching and Learning Leader).  .
