CREATIVE ARTS
Year 3/4 have been completing on the theme 'Space' for science week. They have used a variety of materials including texta, paint, pencils and cut paper - with techniques such as painting, sponging, splatter and collage.
MATHS
Our current unit of work is 'Fractions and Decimals'. Presently the children are representing fractions and finding equivalents.
The class have started practising their play for SMArt and Drama Night and most parts are now allocated. They are learning to use their voices clearly with expression.
ENGLISH
Recent English tasks have included use of speech punctuation to write a short conversation between the Three Bears, a police report using adverbial phrases, varying sentence starters and discussion as to whether Goldilocks was guilty or not guilty.
Year 5/6
In 5/6 we have spent this week conducting experiments on flight, creating air-powered rockets, designing 'Break Proof' Egg Baskets, created artworks of us as astronauts and watched science clips each day to discuss the many mysteries of our world and the universe! A big thank-you to Miss Moorby for all of her assistance with science week - we love it!
SPELLING BEE - EDUCATION WEEK
Our contestants from the four primary classes were:
Year 3: Joshua Jones, Tayla Grey, Brock Riles
Year 4: Kirsten Piper, Jordan Grimson, Preston Harris
Year 5: Belle Riles, Finlay Shore, Nicholas Wilson
Year 6: Tamsyn Ritchie, Jakeb Friend and Isabella Piper
Students were asked a word from their year level and progressed to the next level after 5 correct words. All students did very well and it was a nail-biting finish between Jordan and Kirsten - who had progressed through words from year 4, year 5, year 6 and were competing on 'Demon Words'. Kirsten placed first with the correct spelling of 'receipt'.
Well done to all students involved.
WORK EXPERIENCE
We have had the absolute pleasure of having year 10 BCS student Ben Klose in our 5/6 class this week. Ben has helped with our science week experiments, collected resources, organised the classroom, worked with students individually and in groups and generally been a great asset to our classroom. All of the children, Mr Stuart and Mrs K would like to thank Ben for his professionalism, his kind nature and his fantastic work ethic. We sincerely hope you look into a future as a primary school teacher. You would be great!

Infants Learning
Year 1 has been working hard this term in all their subjects. We have been learning how to write Book reports to describe what we are reading and to decide if we would recommend books to our friends. In Maths we have also been working on 3D shapes and addition and subtraction of larger numbers. Geography has us starting to look at natural and man made features of Australia and how we look after them. Mrs Hoy has been working with Year 1 to investigate the changing features of the sky between Day and Night.
Year 1 has been loving all the special weeks this term. For Education Week in week 3, they enjoyed deciding how they would run Boorowa Central school if they were principal for the day (if half the class had their way, they would turn the school into jelly so we could bounce around and eat it!). Science week in Week 4 has had us completing different science activities every day, so far our little scientists have explored density by creating lava lamps, used chemical reactions to make sultanas dance in a liquid, and tried to make rainbows on the wall. Year 1 has also participated in several whole school activities such as seeing who could make a rocket fly the furthest and exploring sherbet.
Year 1 would like to thank all the teachers who have been going above and beyond to share their various expertise this term.
Miss Sarah Morris l Year 1 Classroom Teacher
Book Week
Next week is Book Week and the theme is 'Reading is my secret power'. On Thursday students have the opportunity to dress up as their favourite book character. We look forward to seeing many different ideas for dressing up in line with the Book Week theme. A reminder that it is a dress up day and not a mufti day, children who do not wish to dress up should come to school in their school uniform.
Infants Excursion
We are on the countdown to our Infants Excursion please remember to send your note and payment to the office or pay online by the 30th August. Thank you to those families who have done this already.
