Acting Principal's Message
Message from Mr Graham Jones
Education week celebrations were in full swing last week at Boorowa Central and within the Binit Binit learning community with a variety of events showcasing our students and their multitude of talents.
Student artworks were on display at the Yass Memorial Hall last week as part of the Binit Binit Art exhibition and twenty students from Year 3-10 danced their heart out on stage in the Binit Binit Dance concert last Friday night. Both were excellent displays of the creative artistic talent we have at BCS. Between these events we listened to students in the Primary Spelling Bee spelling words that make most adults stop and second guess themselves and students expressing themselves eloquently on a range of topics ranging from 'What I would do if I were Principal' to Earthquakes to 'What Education means to me' at the Education Week assembly. It was a fantastic week and I thank all of our parents who came and shared the occasion.
Science has been the theme across NSW Public Schools this week. The students of BCS have been making and launching rockets, mixing sherbet, designing 'Space' themed posters and creating contraptions to prevent an egg smashing when dropped from a height. The highlight for me will be the Science themed stand-up comedy routines next Monday - I've been rehearsing a few dad jokes for this occasion.
This week we have our Year 10 students on Work Experience. Reports back from employers and workplaces are that our students are not only doing what is expected but thriving. I had the pleasure of visiting one workplace and phoning another employer and both sang the praises of the students and their application to all tasks. I am glad that the wider community have the opportunity, through this program, to see what mature young adults we have here at Boorowa Central and I am also thankful to these employers for being prepared to take this responsibility on.
Looking ahead we have some important events coming up. The HSC Trial examinations begin next week, the second most important exam a student will sit in their schooling life behind the HSC exams themselves. Hopefully, the students have completed a rigorous pattern of study in the weeks leading up to these exams to ensure they achieve marks that accurately reflect their knowledge and understanding of each subject. If these marks are disappointing when returned, the students will still have eight weeks to revise and study before their HSC exams begin in earnest. I wish these students the best of luck for next week.
Infants and Primary students who have qualified will be competing in the District Athletics carnival next Friday. Good luck to our competitors.
The annual State Touch carnival begins in Dubbo on 27 August with four Secondary teams from BCS travelling over to compete for the State Central School title. The open boys are the defending champions but with a few key players finishing school last year it will be tough to go back to back.
Lastly, Kindergarten transition begins on 5 September with Orientation in the library from 12.30 pm. It is then followed by a series of half and full transition days. I look forward to seeing our future 'little people' again and discussing their successful transition to BCS with their parents.
On a final note, I have completed the consultation process for an updated 'Discipline Process' here at Boorowa Central. I will place a copy of this document in the next Newsletter and it will be implemented once our data management system has been updated to reflect the process.
