Crossroads
Crossroads was a compulsory two-day course carried out in collaboration with the University of Wollongong, CNI PDHPE teachers and the Department of Education. The course consisted of multiple guest speakers such as Melissa Abu-Gazaleh (founder of the Top Blokes Foundation), Oliver Batton (Sustainability Ambassador and International Student Programs Co-ordinator at UOW), and Kate Fitzsimons (motivational speaker for the Nicole Fitzsimons Foundation) just to name a few. These speakers delivered their message to the various public schools in attendance, whether it was a motivational topic on how to find your passion and purpose, gaining independence, the importance of travel safety, the steps to take to become resilient despite unfortunate experiences, and to accept that we don't just bounce back but take steady steps. We also discussed, as a collective with other high school students and staff, the issues impacting young adult lives, including the main topic of consent. Each school was given two mentors who also went through their own experiences as university students, enabling further insight into what it's like beyond high school, broadening our perspective to a much larger variety of paths and choices that we will face into our journey through the next chapter of our lives.
