Mazenod Junior Basketball Team Report

Congratulations to the Mazenod Junior Basketball team who progressed through to the School Sport WA Junior School Basketball Shield Grand Finals.

Mazenod played against Woodvale SC who finished second in the North of the River finals series.

Despite plenty of hard work and toil the Mazenod team fell short against one of the best teams in the state. A final score of 87-55 was a tough loss for the boys but showed the group what they need to emulate in future seasons.

Well done on a fantastic season and I am looking forward to seeing some of the boys representing the senior team next season!

Mazenod ACC A Division Athletics

On Wednesday 18 September, 80 students competed in the A Division ACC Athletics Carnival at the State Athletics Centre. The students had been training hard for several months before the carnival and were looking for a strong result this year. Again, the team knew the competition was going to be intense given the quality of athletes from the other schools. An overcast and wet day was presented to the boys but they were keen to take the ACC Overall Boys' Shield. Over the course of the day there were some fantastic individual and team results which kept Mazenod in the hunt for the Shield.

Unfortunately, the team fell just short, as Sacred Heart, Sorrento stormed away in the 4x 100m relays winning the Overall Boys' Shield. Mazenod finished 2nd, which was a good achievement against strong competition. However, the team was successful in winning the Senior Boys' Shield from Sacred Heart, which was an awesome achievement!

Some notable individual performances were:

Aston Archer:

Champion Boy U13

Robert Marchesi Scott:

Broke the U14 Discus record of 47.1 m by throwing 48.1m

Broke the U14 Shot Put Record of 16.50m by throwing 16.54m

Congratulations the whole squad for their commitment and dedication over the term and at training. Well done to Ben Dupont (Athletics captain) for his leadership over the course of the campaign and achievements on the day, and to the staff coaches who had all the athletes very well prepared for their events. Once again, the Mazenod spirit and desire to compete was very evident and both are major factors that contribute to our success.

Year 7 WAFC Competition

Mazenod V Helena College

Yesterday Mazenod College Year 7 WAFC Team played Helena College in the final game of the Year 7 WAFC Competition. It was a must win for Mazenod, a win would see Mazenod win the Year 7 WAFC Title for the first time in the history of the College. The game started very quickly with Helena College putting a lot of defensive pressure on Mazenod early. Mazenod quickly settled and took control of the game.

Mazenod dominated the rest of the game running out winners 84 – 12 over Helena College. It was a great achievement by the team who were dominant all season. Big thanks to Mr Floyd for coaching the team and all the parents who attended the games and supported the team.
