Wellbeing

Dear Families,

As we begin the school holidays in lockdown it may be challenging to know what to do with the children to keep them active and engaged. Below, I have listed some ideas which may assist you in making the most of the holiday break. Please note these ideas are taken from the RACV website article '21 things to do with kids at home during lockdown'

  1. Pack a Picnic: Head to a local park or picnic in the backyard with some tasty, home-made treats.
  2. Hallway Bowling Alley: Make your own DIY bowling alley in the hallway by lining up some empty bottles.  Use an old pair of socks balled up to act as the bowling ball. Adding water or sand into the bottles makes it a little more challenging for older children.
  3. Bird is the Word: Take up the opportunity for some bird watching this Spring by looking out for bird species in your backyard or local area. Birdlife Australia’s bird-finder tool is an app that can assist you to identify the different species local to your area.
  4. In the home Lab: Scienceworks has some great ideas for simple science activities you can do at home.  Head to their website to explore some of the fun holiday options you can engage in from the comfort of your own home.

5. Under the Sea: The aquarium is running a Zoom-based school-holiday camp with interactive sessions on penguins, fish, sharks and rays, and reptiles and rainforest. Or you may want to try engaging in some marine meditation by watching some mesmerizing moon jellyfish pulse through the water.

There are so many other ideas or events to engage in over the holidays.  Whatever you end up doing I wish you all a safe, restful and relaxing break.

with best wishes,
