Flinders Adventure

I had a wonderful time on the Senior camp to the Flinders Ranges last week. What an outstanding learning opportunity for our Year 6 and 7 students. We had perfect weather and the itinerary was brilliant – we all learned so much about the history and geography of the region. We were very proud of our students who worked so well together, looked after each other all week, and were fully engaged in the learning.

A highlight for me was a day with our Adnyamathanha guide Kristian Coulthard who

welcomed us to Country with a smoking ceremony at our campsite, and then took us on a full day of exploring and learning about Aboriginal culture and history. We felt privileged that he took us to a restricted site where we scrambled over rocks and around waterholes to view 30 000 year old rock carvings - a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience!

At the end of each day we had a refection sharing time around the campfire, and students

impressed us with their deep thinking and understanding about the new learning.

A huge amount of work goes into planning a week-long trip and I’d like to thank Sallie

Griffin for organising such a special experience for our students in their last year of primary school. Thank you also to the brave adults accompanying us - parents Simon Vince, Simon Sheldrick and Daniel Hampton, and Pre-service teacher Romlea Evangelista. I think we all enjoyed the experience immensely, but were ready for a big sleep on Friday night!

Community-minded

We are continuing learning about how to give and support others through our community-

minded theme. So many of our students are very willing to help out and in fact always looking for opportunities to help others. I think they know that it 'fills their buckets' too! It was great to see Karim picking up rubbish and returning equipment left out on the school oval at the end of lunch last week; he wasn’t looking for praise but I managed to snap a photo anyway! Thank you Karim for being so community-minded.

Exploring old worlds, new worlds, other worlds

We’ve been having a wonderful Book Week with the theme ‘exploring old worlds, new worlds, other worlds’.  We have been celebrating how the experience of reading can take us to other 'worlds' in our minds, and can introduce us to so many new ideas and experiences. All classes have participated in activities with their classes such as reading with buddies, making artworks in response to the texts, and visiting the amazing time machine created by Di Badenoch in the library.

We loved seeing the costumes for our dress up day today. I was amazed and proud that EVERY SINGLE STUDENT in the school made the effort to dress up. This is another fabulous demonstration of our community-minded students and families! Thank you to all of the adults who helped out at home to make sure students had a costume to wear, and felt included in the celebrations.  It was great that so many were able join us via Zoom; hopefully next year we can welcome families back in person to watch our parade!

Parent Survey

Thank you to the 45 families who have completed our parent survey. The survey feedback gives us direction for improvements for the next 12 months and aspects of our work to celebrate too!  We would appreciate if all families could take a few moments to complete the survey so that we know we are acting on the experiences of all families.

The last date to complete the survey is August 29.

If you did not receive an email or SMS with your unique survey link, I have included it here:  https://educationsa.syd1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8oi3YL6pkNAPlf8?RID=CGC_Gj8yxQ779EWCuwt&Q_CHL=email

Thank you and have a great weekend everyone!
