Health & Physical Education
Wednesday September 1st marked National Health and Physical Education (HPE) Day. National HPE Day is designed to raise awareness and advocate for a greater focus of HPE in schools. Unfortunately, Australian students rank among the worst in the world when it comes to participating in frequent physical activity for measurable health outcomes (The Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation). To tackle this issue, we must educate one another on how to lead active and healthy lifestyles. All HPE students are required to participate in some form of physical activity during the week. The form of physical activity is predominantly incorporated into your sons timetabled double lesson. HPE students are reminded to follow Mr Coghlan’s 3 C’s.
- Connect: Log on to Google Meet and be changed into comfortable clothing for practical lessons.
- Complete: Participate in practical and/or theory tasks to the best of your ability.
- Communicate: Talk to your PE teacher and classmates in lessons. They will support you.
September 1st also presented the news of an extended lockdown in Victoria and marked the first day of spring. The first item poses yet another barrier to our ability to live a healthy lifestyle. The second, however, should act as an enabler. Wednesday was a great example of the warmer weather and longer periods of sunlight we have been craving. Challenge yourself and the people around you to focus on the later. Try setting some small, achievable goals that enables you to look after yourself a little better. It does not have to involve a 3km run or 50 push ups a day. Select activities you enjoy. Any physical activity is better than none. Be kind to your mind and body and let’s get moving this spring!
