Year 10 Visual Communication Design
During this year, the Year 10 Visual Communication Design students have been busy working on several different tasks. In Semester 1, they applied the design process, and using design elements and principles, began creating a six-sided box that represented themselves.
Side One – PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE Hopes and Dreams
Side Two – Fears and Phobias
Side Three – Religion and Beliefs
Side Four – Personality
Side Five – Interests and Talents
Side Six – Culture and Identity
To develop their final solutions, they explored different media including gouache paints, coloring pencils, markers and materials and methods of production including collage, 3-Dimensional constructions and scraper boards.
Currently, we are focusing on Representational Drawing through an environmental design task. The students are applying the conventions used in technical drawings to create a dwelling of their choice. The work will culminate in a final piece, completed in Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop, which will be a promotional poster.
Despite all the unforeseen interruptions due to COVID throughout this year, and the challenges brought with it, the students have produced some amazing works and are continuing to do so.

Year 10 Art
Year 10 Students have been focusing on drawing tasks this semester using many different mixed media. They have looked at observational still life drawing, drawing from the right side of the brain and other strategies of how to draw. Different styles of drawing include contour, gestural, modelled, representational, narrative, expressive and abstract. Different artists have distinctive styles and draw in many different ways.
On our return from the last lockdown, I introduced the students to the artist, Locust Jones. I decided that whilst we were in the classroom, I wanted the students to use their creative qualities and do some reflective artwork remembering what they had learnt from the drawing exercises in the style of Locust Jones. The students were to ‘wonder’ and reflect about their world at this time and what visually would best describe what their world is all about.
Here are some visuals that show the Year 10 Art students working collaboratively on a mural with this task. As you can see the artwork is a collection of black and white images including text that is a response to how Year 10 students see the world today. Students had fun creating this activity and the final piece was very successful.
