Year 2 Remote Learning

From Helen, Year 2 Teacher

Year Two students have been very busy during remote learning. This term, our Other Learning Area topic is science, focussing on forces like push/pull, gravity and magnetism. We didn’t want the science and learning to stop just because we’re at home, so the students have been working hard on some home science projects.

Last week, we looked at buoyancy. On the first day, students experimented to find a range of items that would float or sink. We used the scientific method to make predictions, conduct the experiment, and report on our findings.

The next day, students designed and made their own boats with materials found around the house, like aluminium foil. They then tested the boats in the water to see how many objects they could hold. There were some impressive designs!

National Science Week

The science fun continues this week as it’s National Science Week. A postponed trip to Scienceworks hasn’t stopped the budding young scientists from experimenting! The week got off to a great start yesterday with some kitchen science where students learned how to make butter with just some cream and some vigorous shaking. The year two team has more science fun planned for the rest of the term and can’t wait to see what Year 2 do. Keep up the great work everyone!
