Principal Report

How things change : (

I hope each person in our community is feeling supported through this latest phase of remote learning. It is really difficult at times to continue to show our young people what it means to be resilient when as adults we are probably finding that the world is harder than we are used to. We need to keep working together across our community, reaching out, supporting others, and continuing to choose kind.

If you need support, please reach out. If you know of someone else who is finding this hard, please contact us and share. We can call them and discuss what we can do to support them and their children.

Keeping children happy, ensuring learning continues, and supporting strong attendance at home online, or in school is our aim.

We are going to be impacted throughout the year with further interruptions. We will continue with the way we have approached remote learning previously after a few things were recently rested. For the majority of families, the interaction with their teachers and peers in large groups and in small groups has been successful.

Every home is different though. For some families taking care of the learning without Zoom is their way, for others Zoom every day is working, and for a few, the only way work can be completed is to be present at school. We will continue to support each way.

We are in the process of creating a survey for families to help us modify our approach (if needed) when we return from this lockdown. We will send this at the end of the week.

For now, you will receive your resources on Compass through a message from the teams. They will be compiled into a document that can be printed or viewed on the screen. Our preferred approach is that you access the work on screen as this is better for the environment. If you do need to print a copy and you do not have the resources, ask us and we can arrange for this. The resources will have lesson plans as we know the morning Zooms do not suit every house and you may wish to look at them at another time.

The teachers will be running small group Zooms each day. These are based on ability groups for reading, writing, and maths. The details are in a timetable from your teacher. If you can attend, great. If you cannot attend then let your teacher know. We are happy to mark you as attending if you are overseeing your child's work at home. If you are not attending because your child is not working...we understand. Please consider sending them to school.

If you want children to see their friends feel free to arrange Zooms with other families privately. Just always remember to be safe online and supervise the catch-ups.

This week we have had excellent communication from families regarding attendance. Next week our aim is to see more work coming into school for us to comment on. The easy way is to take a picture and post it in the Zoom class chat. Everyone can then see the work so we all need to practice excellent online etiquette when viewing.

Finally, I wish you all well over the coming weekend and hope you find some joy in the unusually warm weather that is here for a few days.

Stay safe.
