Cyber Safety

It is not always possible to control everything our children access online, but there are things we can do to make sure they are supported and have safety strategies.

What parents can do to support their children around technology?

  • Increase supervision of all screen time
  • Strictly no devices in bedrooms and bathrooms. It is safest to keep devices in communal areas.
  • It’s best to have a cut off time for access to technology e.g. 7:30pm
  • Open up a conversation to encourage your children to come to you if they see something “disturbing” online. Further information: What to do when your child sees something disturbing online
  • Remind your children that they always have 24/7 access to support via Kids Helpline (www.kidshelpline.com.au)
  • Don’t hesitate to seek advice from a professional (e.g. doctor, psychologist, school counsellor) should you have any concerns about your child's mental health and technology
  • Platforms like Tik Tok, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter and Discord all have minimum age restrictions and SHOULD NOT BE USED by primary school students
  • Students are not allowed to use their school email to set up social media apps or online gaming
