From the Deputy Principal's Desk

Families,

What a delight it has been for our community to be welcoming our students back to school! This week we had our Prep students back at school on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, then today we welcomed our Year 1 and Year 2 students. Tomorrow, we will have our Year 1 and 2s again, as well as our Year 5/6s. In this most extraordinary year, we have remained connected wherever possible and continue to Grow Stronger Together. This is our school theme for 2021, and every student, staff member and family has grown stronger as best they can, amidst challenge and uncertainty. We also respect and appreciate that the challenges of this year are different for individuals and families. We thank all of our parents and carers for their ongoing support of student learning, wellbeing and working in partnership with our staff.

Last week, it was announced via Skoolbag that I will be leaving Resurrection at the end of 2021. In 2022 I will take up the position of Principal at St. Dominic’s School, Camberwell East. Naturally, I am very excited about this opportunity and look forward to leading the staff and school community of St Dominic’s. Amongst this happiness is also sadness, as leaving the wonderful Resurrection School community will be difficult. I have been at Resurrection for 6 years, and in that time have been embraced by this community of warmth, welcome and wellbeing. It is such a happy place to work and to belong, and where we all find place and purpose. I will miss every one of you as I leave, however I know we can stay connected. Some children have already told me that they will be keeping in touch via email- the wonders of our kids and their love of technology!

In my weekly Welcome videos on our Remote Learning website, I often share a challenge, a quote or an interesting fact. Some of the Challenges have been: Being Kind (self and others), Recharge, Refresh and Ready, 100 Day Challenge (finding 100 things to be happy about or grateful for), STEM challenge, and Get Up and Move. I do hope that your children have been able to engage in some or all of these, and I thank those students who emailed me to share their challenge. In this week’s video, I invited children to focus on our ‘Reskeys’. Our Reskeys are the 3 key areas of behaviour that guide and support our behaviour, self-management and wellbeing. ‘Respect’, ‘Responsibility’ and ‘Resilience’ are our Resurrection School ‘Reskeys’. Please chat with your child/ren about this, as this focus will support them in their transition back to school and for the remainder of 2021. Perhaps parents and carers have also found positive ways to incorporate these three keys in the home and with remote learning.

We look forward to welcoming all students back to school over the coming weeks! Like a jigsaw puzzle, all pieces (our students) will be back together by the end of Week 5.

Take care,

Natalie Kenny
