Our Term 4 Journey - Stronger Together
Our focus for Term 4 is for each of our students to finish the year in a strong manner and with the confidence to progress to the next year level in 2022. We will respond to the unique and individual learning and wellbeing needs of students, prepare them for transition and continue to build their knowledge, skills and resilience.
At every year level, students have a range of needs and progress at different rates. Teachers work to understand their students and how they learn. This was the practice before COVID-19 and will continue to be teacher practice into the future. Children do not learn and progress one step at a time, equally paced and achieved over a set time frame. Some learning progressions are achieved at a slower pace for a period of time and are followed by a period of rapid growth, achievement and maturation. This is typical of the learning journey. For this reason, teachers track and monitor progress regularly so that they know and understand the learning of each student over time. Teachers plan to meet the specific learning needs of all students at all year levels. In making decisions, teachers are guided by research so that they can offer the best possible opportunities for each learner.
Our teachers will carefully monitor student progress and provide additional targeted support in Term 4 knowing that some students will need extra help to settle back into school routines. They will work with the support services available to provide the care needed. Students who need targeted support will be identified and strategies will be put in place to meet their needs. Teachers will carefully assess the progress of student learning and will use this information to provide a Semester 2 Student Progress Report.
Some parents or carers may be worried about their child’s progress during the period of remote learning. Educational practice promotes the use of differentiation and targeted intervention for those students who are at risk of not progressing academically. We are very confident that this is the best strategy and that we will continue to do all we can to ensure that we make the best decisions for all students in our school. We will work in partnership with you to support your child to complete this year and progress to the next year level with confidence and optimism.
In planning for 2022 every decision will be made with the impact of this extraordinary year in mind, including: class structures, groups, support, staffing and programs.
We encourage you to approach the rest of this school year and next year with a positive, confident outlook.
