Training sessions will be held on Friday September 1 and another TBC.

For both events students will be wearing our new Galilee sport singlets and shorts which will be distributed the morning of Hooptime.

Funding

Catholic schools in Victoria are funded from both the State and Federal Governments. Our funding is calculated based upon the amount of enrolments that we have at the time of census (August and February). The funding that we receive allows us to purchase resources and teach subjects that benefit our students. We are continuously tracking our forecast of enrolments to prepare for the following year, 2019. Funding per student, generally goes up in even increments but sometimes there is a large gap of up to $45,000. We are expecting to be at a number in 2019 that places us close to this gap. In other words, one less anticipated enrolment may cost the school $45,000. It also allows us to offer places to those who are currently on a waiting list.

We have twice sent home notes to parents asking for their intentions for 2019. Our Enrolment and Exit Policy states that parents are required to give at least 10 weeks notice prior to leaving or you may be charged additional fees. If you are not intending your child to be at Galilee in 2019 and have not told the office, can you please do so asap.

Staff Leave

We welcome back Ms Giles this week who has returned from Leave. Thank you to Miss Romios who has taught Year 4G for the first four weeks of this term. Mr Tobin will return from approved Leave on Monday August 27. Wendy will be on leave from 20th to 27th August. Miss Biggs will be on approved Leave and be travelling overseas to attend a wedding from August 27 to September 7 and will be replaced by Miss Lauren Bland, who has spent considerable time at Galilee in 2018.

Playground After School

Currently, students are allowed to be on the playground equipment after school ONLY if they are under the direct supervision of a parent/guardian/carer.

During this time, classroom teachers are waiting with their students while they are collected and ONE other member of staff is officially on duty till 3:40pm.

The staff member on duty cannot provide the level of supervision required for students on the playground equipment while watching the remainder of the yard. The primary function of this staff member is to ensure that students are collected safely by a parent/guardian/carer.

Students playing on the equipment from 3:25-3:40pm are not the responsibility of the school staff. If your child is on the playground equipment from 3:25-3:40pm they are your responsibilty and must be directly supervised by a parent/guardian/carer who is present.

Families are able to remain after this time, 3:40pm, but are the responsibility of the parent/guardian/carer.

At Galilee, we greatly value community engagement and the use of the playground equipment is an opportunity for families to gather and connect.

However, for this to continue we need parents/guardians/carers to provide strict supervision during this time to minimise the safety risks to the students.

We need families to closely monitor that ONLY children who are closely supervised can be on the playground equipment from 3:25pm.

Thank you for your assistance,

Simon Millar
