A delicious trip to Spain has been on the menu this term, with thanks to the Galban family for their recipe contribution to our “Food around the world “program.

The skill focus for this menu was dicing, where the students prepared many different vegetables including broad beans which have been harvested gradually from our garden for the duration of this menu. The students were pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to make Paella, and we also talked about the different ingredients they could use when making Paella at home. They prepared a simple side salad with their own dressing. Delicious!

Thank you also to Planet hope, for their continued support of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen program.

6B Spanish Menu

Riley, Jamie, Jordan, Reese, Meagan and Zac.

We made the vegetarian paella. Meagan and Jamie made the side salad that we ate with the paella. In the salad we put grated cucumber, carrot, lettuce and capsicum. Reese made the paella with a bit of love from everyone. First we cooked the onion and waited for it to go clear. Then we added the stock and the other vegetables. Next we added the rice. Everyone enjoyed the delicious meal!

Fun facts about Spain

-    Paprika comes from a capsicum

-    Tapas is not a type of food but a way of eating it.

-    3/4 of saffron is grown on Spain

6W Spanish Paella

Olivia, Harry, Nerys, Khodi and Alyssa.

In this dish we used many vegetables including capsicum, broad beans, onion, tomato and last but not least asparagus. The name asparagus comes from the Greek language and means shoot or sprout. This dish was very delicious and had many enjoyable flavours. Everyone liked the Spainish cuisine.
