ANAPHYLAXIS TRAINING

Our Monday Curriculum Day saw the staff spend their morning becoming certified in the First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis.  Forty staff members received training in developing their knowledge and skills in the management of anaphylaxis and allergies. This includes recognising the symptoms of life-threatening allergic reactions and administering of adrenaline via an Epipen.

Our Anaphylaxis Policy is updated each year and can be accessed on Compass under School Resources.

A huge thank you to our school community for your contributions towards our Cadbury Chocolate Fundraiser. We are still awaiting the last few payments for chocolate boxes but I am very happy to let you all know so far we have raised over $8000 towards our School playground.  This is a wonderful effort and will be much appreciated by the students as work begins on the new playground next year.  Congratulations and thank you everyone!

I do have a five boxes left in my office if anybody would like to take these to sell please let me know!

ASSESSMENT

Each year, at  the beginning of term 4,  our teachers are undertaking final assessments to assist them with the writing of Semester 2 Reports.

We have an extensive assessment schedule at Wheelers Hill Primary School that enables our assessments to be consistent across and within the various year levels.

To ascertain your child’s mark of their reports teachers use a range of assessment tools. these include:

  • Observations
  • Moderated tasks
  • Oral presentations (formal and informal)
  • Online testing
  • Interview
  • Progressive Achievement Tests (Reading and Maths)
  • Standardised testing
  • Checklists
  • Anecdotal notes
  • Interviews
  • Teacher created tests
  • Activities done in class – posters, bookwork etc
  • Rubrics
  • Self and peer evaluation
  • Conversations

While all off these form the academic judgments you are provided with for the semester reports it is also important to note that teachers are also looking to develop skills in your students that show their ability to:

  • Take risks with their learning
  • Demonstrate their resilience
  • Be optimistic
  • Be kind, generous, courteous and respectful of others and to others
  • Show compassion
  • Demonstrate perseverance
  • Be reflective

All these assessment tasks align with the Victorian Curriculum and combined give a clear view as the where each child is placed on the learning continuum.

Teachers spend a great deal of time analysing assessment results, discussing and conferring with their colleagues to ensure all results accurately reflect the learning levels of each student.

Students learning is not linear and can sometimes plateau as they are consolidating their understandings. This is to be expected. What is vital is to remember that every child is unique and  every child’s learning journey differs.

SECOND HAND UNIFORM SHOP

Thank you to Winnie (mum of Titus 3TL and Annis 1BC) and her wonderful helpers who run the Second-Hand Uniform Shop every second Tuesday afternoon.

Stock is running a little low – which is great as it means many of you are using the service to purchase some spare uniforms.  We are now needing to top up the stock. If you wish to donate any second-hand uniforms please send to school and place in the wheelie bin outside of the Assistant Principals Office.

The next uniform shop will be next Tuesday 12th November at 3pm in the Staffroom.
