Pastoral Care Worker News

I love Christmas, but it can be a very stressful time for a lot of families, not just financially, but also relationships can be tricky at this time of the year.
Forgiveness can go a long way to healing relationships, so this week I will share Dr. Fred Luskin’s 9 steps to Forgiveness.
- Talk to a few trusted friends about the experience and why it was ‘not ok’.
- Forgiveness is for YOU, not the other person, so be kind to yourself.
- Forgiveness does not mean you have to reconcile with the other person or condone their actions, rather it is a journey to discovering that you can learn to be at peace with yourself and take offences less personally.
- Recognise that you are hurting NOW, not from what offended you 5 minutes or five years ago.
- The moment you are upset, practice stress management to calm yourself.
- Give up your expectations that other people will meet all your needs. We can hope for love and friendship but some will choose not to give these things to you and these are things we can’t demand.
- Put your energy into looking for another way to get your positive goals met rather than through the experience that has hurt you.
- Instead of focussing on your wounded feelings, and thereby giving power to the person who has caused you pain, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you. Put more energy into what you have rather than what you do not have.
- Amend the way you look at your past, so that you remind yourself of your heroic choice to forgive.
Food for thought!
Parent Afternoon Tea
Parents and Carers are welcome every Friday afternoon from 2.30pm in the Conference Room, Penney Unit. Come and relax before you pick your children up from school. We would love to see more people attending these afternoon teas.
There will be no afternoon tea on the last day of school, Friday 13/12.
Christmas Hamper Collection
I have placed a box in the Front Office for collection of food items for our Christmas Hampers this year.
Maybe you and your children could go shopping together and buy a few special items, or just add in one small thing a week as you do your shopping.
Some ideas are custards, jellies, canned fruit, breakfast cereal, fruit juice, canned ham, pasta, pasta sauce, Christmas bon-bons, chocolates, lollies, mince pies etc. Any new toys or books would also be very helpful.
Whatever you give will be of great value to our families that receive a Hamper.
Many blessings,
Cherie Love, Pastoral Care Worker
