Kids on Country

On Wednesday the 23 November Gill Dowd and I took 12 students into the city to experience “Kids on Country” organised by the City of Adelaide. The location is significant to the Kaurna people as it was held in the parklands which was part of the Native Title handed back to the Kaurna People in 2018. The students went on a bush tour to find bush tucker and plants that may have been used for medicine.

The next activity was Wodli workshop which was hands on building traditional shelter, the students enjoyed this activity and it was very much a team building exercise.

Our third workshop was Ochre play, which was very messy and fun at the same time, the students made some impressive pieces of art.

The Animals Anonymous workshop tested our school values with some slithery friends, where we got to pat a baby Pademelon, a snake and crocodile. Workshop five was Kaurna face painting and dance, this was very entertaining on the dancing side of things. It was fantastic to watch the students out of their comfort zones trying new things.

Our last workshop was Kaurna carvings, very well presented and very informative. Students learnt a lot about how to make traditional tools and instruments.

All in all, everyone had a great day, a massive thank you to the City of Adelaide council for putting on a terrific day and a massive thank you to our parent helpers who came along and enjoyed a day out with us.

We hope you enjoy the photos taken on the day.
