Magis

Last weekend our Year 7 Opti-MINDS team of Meg Cleary, Maya Mintz, Hannah Johnson, Alejandra Recinos and Sara Lazareski performed with distinction at the WA Finals at Curtin University. Competing in the strong Language-Literature Division II they won Honours Awards and were the top Year 7 team in this prestigious WA competition.  Warmest thanks to parents who supported the team on the day.

Updated information was sent out this week  to families of students participating in this year’s World Scholar’s Cup Tournament of Champions at Yale University in November, and the 2020 Space Camp in the Term One holidays next year. Students and parents are urged to check emails regularly, and to make sure Passports and ESTA USA Visa-waivers are organised and up to date.

Warmest thanks to everyone who competed in the John XXIII Chess Championship run by Magis.  Winners were

Year 11: Dominic McCleary

Year 10: Tom Kitchen

Year 9:  Charlie Griffiths

Year 8: Seb Raj

Year 7: Ted Hopkins

Term 3 has been an excellent one for Magis. Apart from WADL Debating, Opti-MINDS, the Challenges and the Chess, highlights have included an excellent Magis Camp, a very successful World Scholar’s Cup Sydney Tour, and the exciting Bell Shakespeare performances for Years 7 and 8 Magis students.

Highlights for next term will include the World Scholar’s Cup Years 8 and 10 teams competing at Yale, the Tournament of Minds STEM team competing in the nationals in Hobart, the second semester Personal Project Display, and of course the final Magis Awards Presentations.
