Principal's Report

We were delighted to welcome our Principal, Mr Sam Cosentino, back to school this week after his Long Service Leave, feeling refreshed and energised.

Exams

Our Year 12 VCE Students commenced their exams this week. Years 10 and 11 students have their exams in under a fortnight and Year 9 students in the first week of December.

We wish all our students well in their examinations and trust their results will reflect the hard work and hours of study and preparation that students have spent.

It is important to remember when thinking about exams that what matters most is that students achieve to their best of their ability.  That students are able to honestly say that the results they achieve are the best they possibly could is more important than the actual grades themselves. That is why the notion of ‘Personal Best’ performances is so important to elite athletes.  When assessing the results of exams, the question that students should ask is: “Is that the very best result of which I was capable?”  If the answer is “Yes”, then students and parents should be proud of the achievement, whether the result is a 90+ or 60%. I wish all students well in their exams and encourage them to prepare themselves as best that can so that they can be proud of their results.

Conversation Corner with Dr Nicole Yap

Last Tuesday our College Wellbeing Team hosted an evening with Dr Nicole Yap, from Mulgrave Private Hospital. Dr Yap discussed a variety of women’s health issues. This was a very informative evening. While this was our final Conversation Corner for 2019, I encourage all parents and guardians to join our Conversation Corner evenings next year.

Year 9 City Learning

Over the past few weeks our Year 9 students have been engaged in the City Learning Program. This unit of work encourages students to become independent travellers and undertake inquiry-based research on the City of Melbourne.  This has been a very valuable learning experience for the Year 9s. Students are to be congratulated on the manner in which they conducted themselves. We have received very positive feedback from members of the public about our students’ behaviour, politeness and courtesy.

International Youth Silent Film Festival

Congratulations to Year 11 students Emily Lalor, Daniel White, Ronan Lobo and Julia Proctor on making the finals of the International Youth Silent Film Festival. The Award Night was held last Friday 25 October at the Astor Cinema.

Special congratulations to Emily Lalor who won the award for best cinematography.

LitSTEM EXPO

Last Thursday 24 October Nazareth hosted a LitSTEM Expo to showcase the work Nazareth has done in this area in conjunction with three of our partner Primary Schools. As well as our own students and staff, we had over 100 students, 20 staff and numerous parents from the primary schools, as well as five representatives from the office of Catholic Education Melbourne in attendance.  The day was an outstanding success!
