College Athletics Carnival

Solomon House Leaders' Report

The girls participated in individual and team events testing their individual ability and ability to coordinate and work as a team in their cohorts. Everyone made effort to compete, encourage and cheer each other on which created a great energy that was upheld throughout the day. We saw so many people involved whether competing or doing charity laps around the course and were extremely happy with everyone’s efforts.

Overall, Solomon came fifth and scored a total of 233 points! We are pleased with the sportsmanship and efforts on the day and are proud of everyone in our team for doing such an outstanding job. We’d like to say a big thank you to the teachers and everyone involved in organising and running the event.

McCormack House Leaders' report

Athletics 2017 was an absolute blast! Participation was incredible from all houses, and unfortunately McCormack finished second place again to Providence. Congratulations to all the girls who were awarded with the champion medals on the day, and a massive thank you towards all of the teachers that made the day incredible.

For this term, McCormack will be running a netball tournament for Year 7 students. This provides the opportunity for Year 7 students to become involved and battle it for the opportunity to win some house points for their house! Good luck to everyone!

Kincumber House Leaders' Report

On Friday the 28th of April, us MSJ girls had our annual athletics carnival, despite the weather being a little cold the day was an overall success. Melrose (Kincumber Leader) and myself were very pleased to see many of the girls from not only our house colour, but all the girls within the college participating in many events on the day, leading to a very close win between all the 6 house colours. Thankfully Kincumber scored a massive amount of points, 286 to be exact, exactly 1 point away from Penola who scored 287 points, placing us 4th overall.

With help from Ms Snooks, Kincumber were able to run a hairspray stall that was a success all throughout the day. In order for the girls to get their hair sprayed they were asked to make a donation that would go towards Caritas, we were very pleased to see that many students and some teachers making a donation for this cause, as we made a great donation of $106.22 on the day. To make the day even better and say the least, the students were very happy to have won against the teachers on the student vs teachers relay run in which Kincumber placed third. Overall it was a very successful day and for the Year 12’s that had their last Athletics day it was one we’ll never forget.

Tiana and I would like to say a big congratulations to all of the Cameron house students who participated in Friday's Athletics day. Although we did not win, we were very proud of everyones participation levels and would like to encourage everyone to continue to participate in events to increase our points tally. With MMADD day coming up, the Year 7 and 12 students have been working on a 'That's So Raven' Performance that will knock everyones' socks off and we cant wait for everyone to get involved! Go Cameron!

Penola House Leaders' Report

On the 28th of April Penola was ready to compete in the 2017 MSJ Athletics Carnival. Penola house did exceptionally well and had many participants through out the day. Congratulations to Madison Kapulica in Year 7 who performed outstandingly and won the year level champion award. A fantastic amount of effort and support was shown by everyone and Penola house came 3rd overall on 287 points! We look forward to future house competitions to continue the great work and wish the best of luck to all the girls going to the next round to participate in the SCSA Athletics competition this Friday the 12th of May. GO PENOLA!

Providence House Leaders' Report

First of all, Jessica and I, your Providence captains, would like to say a big congratulations to the Providence house for receiving the second trophy of the year. The athletics carnival, being the second house day of the year, was an eventful day full of fun and success. Being a new house for 2017, we sure are beginning our legacy with a bang. It was great to see such a large amount of talent not only supporting Providence, but our community as a whole. Big congratulations to the individual winners from each year level on your amazing achievements. We hope to maintain this house spirit and enthusiasm for all future house days.

SCSA Badminton

The SCSA badminton competition highlighted the importance of perseverance in sport.   The Juniors were undefeated all day, only to come second in a close final against Killester. The Intermediates improved with every game played, finishing third in the semi finals against Killester, by a meagre 4 points! The Seniors also enjoyed success, coming third overall. The girls were also privileged and thrilled to have Mia Srijan (an MSJ graduate) help coach and push everyone to do their best on the day. SCSA Badminton was definitely a worthwhile experience, where all girls that played can attest to several sore limbs the next day and a satisfaction for having participated in something only possible thanks to all the teachers involved. WE ARE MSJ!

SCSA Swimming Carnival

On Wednesday the 29th of March the MSJ swimming team went to MSAC to compete in the Division One SCSA Swimming Carnival. MSJ did exceptionally well competing for the first time in the top division against nine other schools, and at a disadvantage without any Year 7 students due to school camp and only four Year 11 and 12 senior swimmers available to compete. This did not stop the girls from trying their best with the Year 8 and intermediate swimmers in particular doing extraordinarily well with Bianca Mathews and Ashley Payne winning every one of their individual Year 8 events some of which including including 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle. Caitlin McGraw and Charlotte McAnda also performed outstandingly well. With the remarkable effort by every swim team member the junior swimmers came 6th in their section and intermediates finished 3rd and overall MSJ finishing 6th out of the nine other schools completing. A congratulations to all the girls competing on their success and big thank you to Mr Splatt who once again coached the girls leading up to the carnival and all the staff for their help during training and support on the night.

Year 10 Outdoor Education Camp - Rock Climbing in the Brisbane Ranges

On the 22nd of March two year 10 Outdoor Ed classes set off to Werribee Gorge and the Brisbane Ranges on an overnight camping and rock climbing trip.

On the first day we split up into two groups. The first group had the scenic activity for the day walking 10km along the Ted Errey Nature Walk. The girls definitely enjoyed the walk and all of the beautiful scenery that it presented, even if it did include some wet weather. Group Two had chance to rock climbing but unfortunately had to change plans due to bad weather and so instead walked along the canyon in Werribee Gorge. After an exhausting day we all came back to camp for a bit of relaxing time before cooking dinner and going on a small night walk. The night walk helped to put us into a really beautiful nature setting and take in the beauty of the National Park.

The final day began with the girls waking up at bright and early at 7am to pack up the campsite and get the the day started. For Group One the day included the girls getting to experience a picturesque walk within the Brisbane Ranges National Park whilst Group Two were lucky on the final day with magnificent weather for rock climbing and abseiling at Werribee Gorge which tested our nerves and courage.

Overall all the students found the experience eye opening, incredible and fun. Big thanks to the teachers Ms Tagell, Mrs Bowring, Ms Nguyen and Mrs Sofarnos who made this experience for us all amazing and one to remember.
