2020 Premier's Anzac Student Tour

Last year Year 9 Isabella Hulm was chosen to attend the 2020 Premier's Anzac Tour to Darwin and Singapore. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 the tour was postponed. However, Isabella has continued working on various aspects of the project, one of which was a report on John Gilmour who served in the 2/4th Machine Gun Battalion and later became imprisoned by the Japanese in both Singapore and Japan.

Isabella has worked extremely hard researching and re-telling the story. It is an enthralling tale, telling of John Gilmour’s passion for running, his entry into the armed forces and his struggle to survive at the hands of his Japanese captors. Isabella also tells of the lessons we can learn from John Gilmour and the Anzac legacy in Australian society today.
