From the Principal

Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, Staff and Friends of St Norbert College,

When reflecting about the theme to share as part of this newsletter article, I was hoping to somehow avoid the topic of COVID-19 . . . how unrealistic. Although, things were relatively quiet until the Premier announced yesterday of the return to compulsory schooling. In brief, I refer parents to the most recent communications on the College website or through the links below for specific details regarding aspects of the return to schooling for Saint Norbert College students.

We are clearly delighted that all of our students will be back with us, that our teachers can get back to connecting with them in the classroom and some normality returns. We haven’t gone full circle yet, that time will come when we can do what brings us great joy at school, which is sharing in the community events that we hold most dear – acknowledging student achievements at assemblies, hosting Masses, Liturgies and shared prayer to celebrate significant events, engaging with our Arts and cultural activities and a return to physical and practical programs. That day will come but we need to remain vigilant and follow the advice of the authorities.

In this past week alone however, we have celebrated special events in addition to the return of most students. On Mother’s Day, we celebrated our Mums, an acknowledgement of the love and joy given and shared. On Wednesday, we gave thanks through Xanten House for Fr Peter O’Reilly, Fr John Reynolds and Fr Stephen Cooney; the founders of our school. It was from their united vision St Norbert College that we have grown into the wonderful school and community we are today.

We give thanks also to our staff, students and parents. Education involves one of the most important partnerships for a child to flourish and the way in which our staff, our students and our parents have worked together through the rough seas of this pandemic, highlights the joy of our community. It’s exciting to imagine what we can achieve together when the path becomes smoother.

And when we have the hand of God with us, nothing is impossible.

“...do not be afraid, for I am with you; do not be alarmed, for I am your God. I give you strength, truly I help you, truly I hold you firm with my saving right hand” (Isaiah: 41: 10).

God’s blessings to you all.

Mr S Harvey (Principal)
