Swimming Carnival
First up, we had our school swimming carnival on Thursday 14th February and it was a successful day with a number of students competing in different events. The highlight of the day was our Year 11 & 12 students setting an example of leadership by encouraging our Year 7 students to take part. It was great to see all students participate in different events and gaining points for their individual sports house. Two Aboriginal students were elected Captain and Vice-Captain of their house. It’s really fantastic to see two senior students step-up and be elected into leadership roles. Year 10 student, Leslie Toomey was the Under 15 Boys Swimming Champion. Well done Leslie. The winning house was Merah.
School Uniforms
It is fantastic to see all students wearing their school uniforms at the beginning of this term. Well done parents for making this possible, our kids look deadly!
Year 7 Welcome BBQ
On Tuesday 19th, the school held a BBQ for parents of Year 7 students. Unfortunately I couldn’t attend due to my study commitments but I was pleased to hear everyone had a great time.
School Resources
School resources will be available to students from my office so please advise let me know if any students need access to these resources.
Year 7 Excursion
Year 7 had a great excursion to Lake Ainsworth near Lennox Head on the North Coast. They were there for a week doing lots of fun team building activities and getting to know each other.
They got to try raft building, kayaking, swimming, yoga on the beach, visited Byron Bay light house, scaled rock walls and walked the high ropes course.
Year 7 Vaccinations
Year 7 recently had their vaccinations at the high school.
Aboriginal Language Course
Last Monday to Thursday our Aboriginal language course was held at the Wee Waa Public School with Aunty Beth and Uncle John facilitating this course. They are from TAFE NSW in Dubbo. There were six participants and we are all enjoying the knowledge that Aunty Beth and Uncle John shared with us. We are learning about the resources that we can use within our schools.
Important Aboriginal Dates
During the year you will see important Aboriginal dates recognised on our school calendar so that our school community can celebrate important events like:
- National Apology Anniversary
- National Sorry Day
- National Reconciliation Week
- NAIDOC Week
Also the significance of Mabo Day will be something the students will be learning about in class.
