Message from the principal

JOANNE CAMOZZATO

Three terms down and one to go!

The warmer weather has been a welcome change from some of our wild wintry wind during Term 3. Many of you would have noticed the brand new relocatables being moved into position in readiness for 2020. At this stage the College will grow to over 400 students next year and even though construction will begin on the rest of the required facilities the relocatables will be needed to house the growing number of classes and year levels. We have been fortunate to receive new buildings which will be fitted out in readiness for next year with new carpet, air conditioning, IT and classroom furniture. Decking will be build over the coming months to link the relocatables and provid space for outdoor lockers. As soon the architectural plans have been given the final go ahead by the Victorian Schools Building Authority I look forward to sharing with the school community the plans for theatre, visual arts and media specialist classrooms, music rooms, indoor gym, learning community building with learning spaces, canteen, and food classrooms.

Student Achievement

We may only have the younger year levels at the moment at ECSC but we do have many students who continue to try their best in many areas of College life. Later in the newsletter you will read about our outstanding results in the Language Perfect World Championships; three students - Jude, Lily and Stefan are all competing in the State schools athletic championships in October; while the SRC has been busy with the Great Book Swap.

I would also like to thank Lendlease - Aurora for sponsoring the BBQ on R U Ok Day? It is very important to me as the College Principal that we support students with their academic growth, social and physical development and wellbeing.  The presence of Headspace and Whittlesea Baseline Youth Services during lunchtimes supports the Wellbeing curriculum program that all students experience.  Teaching young people the skills to cope with life's challenges is vital and an area where we as adults can assist by also role-modelling help seeking and problem-solving behaviours.

Year 9 Information Evening for 2020

All current Year 8 students and their parents/carers are invited to attend an information evening session on Thursday 10 October at either 6.00 pm or 7.00 pm. The Leadership team has been working intensively with the teaching staff to develop interest subjects for selection by students for Year 9. It is important that students begin to choose areas that they wish to explore as possible pathways for future study or training. During the information session the Year 9 subject selection timeline will be presented and the new attendance policy emphasising the importance of regular school attendance in line with demonstrating the completion of an an adequate amount of classroom instruction will be discussed. Some families may also be considering updating the child's electronic device (laptop or tablet) for Year 9 or Year 10 - the College will provide guidelines for what device will be more useful moving forward into Senior School.  I hope to see you all there and we ask that you book using the Eventbrite link, and Edgarscreek as the password https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/important-year-9-information-evening-for-all-students-and-families-for-2020-tickets-72351859359?ref=estw
