STUDENT VOICE AND LEADERSHIP

Get to know our College Leadership Team

Jess R. 9E - MIDDLE SCHOOL CAPTAIN

When did you start your studies at Doncaster Secondary College?

I started my studies at DSC at the start of year 7.

Tell us about some of your interests.

Outside of school, I do dancing. I am also a part of the school rock band and enjoy hanging out with my friends and spending time with my mum, my stepdad, baby sister and my beautiful dog Bella.

Year 12 Studies/Year 9 Electives:

For my year 9 electives, I am doing Visual Communications and Art. For my myself subjects, I am doing MyLeader, MyFuture, MyCity and MyHarmony.

What have you been involved in throughout your school years?

Since I have been at Doncaster Secondary College, I have participated in many leadership programs, have become a peer support leader to assist the year sevens and participated in a program called Teach the Teacher. My most recent experience was attending a formal luncheon called Empowered Women Empowering Women, that featured Shayna Blaze, Jo Stanley and Rosie Batty. This has been one of the highlights of my time here at DSC.

What gave you the confidence to apply for the leadership role?

My family, friends and teachers gave me the confidence to apply for this role. They all believed in me and supported me every step of the way. They encouraged me through the whole process and told me I could do it, even when I doubted myself.

What advice would you give to those students who aspire to be future leaders?

Go for it! If you are passionate about making a change then have a go. Just remember to do what you want to do and don’t think about what others will say. There is absolutely nothing to lose and it is a great learning experience.

I CAN AND I WILL

What does this mean to you?

To me, this means that if you have the opportunity to do something, you should take it up. For me, this phrase is very motivational and inspirational.

How will you live by this statement throughout the year?

I have been so very fortunate to be offered so many amazing opportunities this year and I have taken up as many of these as possible. I believe it is important to experience opportunities as they can shape you as a person and provide an amazing learning experience.

What are your goals for 2018:

For yourself personally and as a Year 12 student?

My goal for this year is to represent the student body with an equal and fair voice. This is why I applied for this role, to represent the students and my peers of the school that is so important to me.  My goal for myself is to just always put my all into everything that I do and learn as much as I can and experience and have as many unique opportunities as I can, so I can grow and mature as a student and as a person.  My personal goals include to embrace empathy and embrace personal confidence, not put it down.

What are your long-term life ambitions and aspirations?

As crazy as it sounds, when I’m older I’m hoping to become a pilot. I have always loved flying and find aviation absolutely fascinating.

What would you like your legacy to be for Doncaster Secondary College?

I would like to be remembered as someone who always got involved and cared for all around me. I want to leave a footprint, a positive change behind me that has influenced the school community that I care so much about.

In one sentence what would you like to say to your fellow students about your Pride in Doncaster Secondary College?

Doncaster is not only a school for wonderful education, but it is also a gateway to wonderful friends, wonderful opportunities and wonderful experiences that will last a lifetime.
