INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

International students participated in Senior Leadership group interview at DSC
At lunchtime on Wednesday, 31 October five international students participated in Senior Leadership group interview at DSC. Alongside other local candidates, they went through lengthy and fun interview process: one team building activity, answering one question on how to improve DSC student leadership, respond to one question of how to organize a particular activity for school. It’s really good to see all of them getting actively involved in debating, listening, questioning each other and finding solutions in a team.

Year 12 Formal
Friday, 19 October was a very memorable day for all of our year 12 students as they spent a wonderful evening at the year 12 Formal celebrating their achievements and hard work throughout high school. Everyone turned up with gorgeous dresses, fashionable suits, professionally done make-up and hairstyles. I could barely recognise some of them as they all looked so different out of school uniform.
We shook hands, we hugged each other, and we posed for photos together – photos of us standing, sitting, laughing, and peering into middle-distance. For them, Formals are more than the dances and the clothes, they’re a celebration and a rite of passage that everyone takes part in and can be themselves in.
Well done to all our year 12 internationals and good luck for your exams and new life chapter!

Myself Global Garden Program
On Wednesday, 17 October, the international students from the Intensive class joined the Year 9 Myself Global Garden program. There were plenty of activities available to the students on that day, including a yoga & mindfulness session, gardening, group art installation (using recycled materials) and a group picnic. It was such a good opportunity for the students to understand the importance of being aware of the impact we have on our environment. Here are some reflections from our lovely international students:
I liked this activity because I can make friends with local students. If the school makes more and more activities like this I’d like to join.
Weiyan (Will) H. 9L
This activity was very interesting, it makes me feel satisfied when I was planting a small tree. And thanks for our school to give us such a wonderful chance to have experience with planting.
Wenxuan (Alex) C. 9L
The most important point is that we can cooperate well with other students, teamwork.
Yi (Eva) F. 9L
Although we did not have lunch in Westfield, we still knew to recycle the waste after eating.
Jiangxinyi (Rebecca) Z. 9L
We grew some plants and drew some pictures on the floor. I made some friends. I felt happy and excited.
Jun (Simon) C. 9L
The gardening activities were very interesting. We put on the gloves so that we could plant the grass seedings into the small basin and put in fresh soil.
