Primary Co-Curricular Report

There has been a lot happening in the Primary School over the past fortnight and there is more co-curricular action and special events on the way.

Basketball

The Year 4/5 team is on fire and has won its past two matches. The boys are pumped and under the direction of Mr Wright, producing some good play and getting the job done. The Year 6/7 teams have found the going a lot tougher and  struggled against strong opposition the past two weeks. The boys continue to show signs of improvement and are getting used to playing alongside each other.

Soccer

The Year 6/7 A team, under the direction of Andy Nguyen, remain undefeated after three matches this season. The boys were pushed by Sacred Heart but came out of the game with a 5-4 victory.

Mr Niedzwiecki’s 6/7B team lost to CBC on the weekend, but continue to show signs of development in their understanding of shape and formation. A win can’t be too far away for the boys.

The Year 3/4/5 teams that play on Friday nights have also performed well the past two weeks, accounting for PAC and Pembroke. The boys have scored a lot of goals and continue to perform well under the watchful eye of their Year 12 coaches.

Football

The Year 3/4/5 team coached by Mr Parsons have won back-back games against St Peters and Trinity. Last weekend the boys won a tough game against Trinity by a point which was a real buzz for the team. Rumour has it that the group is slowly getting the hang of the Blackfriars Victory Song!

The Year 6/7 boys lost to Trinity on the weekend but accounted for Immanuel the previous week. There is a lot of potential in this team and the boys are looking forward to the next phase of the season.

SAPSASA Knockout

Next Tuesday 28 May the Year 6/7 Footballers take on Nazareth College in the first round of the SAPSASA Knockout Competition.

On Thursday 30 May the Year 6/7 Soccer team take on Nazareth and Lockleys North in the first round robin of the knockout.

We wish all players and coaches well in this exciting competition.

SAPSASA Athletics

On Tuesday 20 May four boys, Liam Waters, Jack Henry, Joshua Henry and Tarquin Forby, represented the North Adelaide District at the SAPSASA State Athletics Carnival. Liam Waters (pictured) performed exceptionally well. He medalled in the following events:

  • Gold – Under 12 Shot Put
  • Silver – 4x100m Relay
  • Bronze – Under 12 100m

He also narrowly missed a medal in the discus placing fourth.

Well done to all participants on your selection in this event and to Liam for medalling.

Crows Cup Football Carnival

A group of 12 Year 5 and 6 students are participating in the Crows Cup 9-a-side carnival this Friday 24 May. The event is held on St Dominic's Oval (Blackfriars Home Ground) and attracts school from all around the North Eastern area. Mr Vo is leading the team and we look forward to a report in the next newsletter.
