Early Learning Centre

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 19th successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy.

We celebrated this event on Wednesday 22 May with Blackfriars Principal, Simon Cobiac, reading the selected picture book, Alpacas with Maracas by Matt Cosgrove. Simon captivated each of our home rooms with his presentation of the story. Our school librarian, Jacquie McEvoy, then joined us for the follow up activity of making Alpaca masks. Luckily we had the expert knowledge of Oriana who brought us pictures of the Alpaca’s on her family farm.

The Early Learning Centre is looking to develop a Reconciliation Action Plan and asking for volunteers to join the working party. The goal is to develop the plan and then embed the principles in our program. Our first meeting consisting of staff and volunteer parents is to be held on Wednesday 12 June at 7.00pm at the Centre. Anyone wishing to join us is welcome.

A reminder that Term 2 this year is 9 weeks only and vacation care will run for 3 weeks. Booking forms for vacation care are now being distributed to families.
